According to a report from the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, the Senate version of healthcare reform that was recently signed into law would impose new and sweeping cuts into Medicare reimbursements for home health. The report states that one third of Medicare home health agencies (HHAs) currently have negative Medicare profit margins, and that under the provisions of the new legislation, as many as 1 million beneficiaries could lose services and that nearly 70% of HHAs will have negative Medicare profit margins by 2016. Update to the 2010 Medicare Physician Schedule

Extension of the Zero Percent (0%) Update to the 2010 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) and Retrospective Restoration of Therapy Cap Exceptions

On March 2, 2010, Congress passed and the President signed the Temporary Extension Act of 2010. This law extends through March 31, 2010, the zero percent (0%) update to the 2010 MPFS that was in effect for claims with dates of service January 1, 2010, through February 28, 2010. The Temporary Extension Act of 2010 has restored the therapy cap exceptions process, effective for dates of service on and after January 1, 2010, through March 31, 2010.
