COVID-19 Update | 05/11/2021
Capacity for indoor, outdoor events in Pennsylvania to increase next week.
Governor Tom Wolf announced that event and gathering maximum occupancy limit will be increased next week.
Beginning Monday, the maximum occupancy limit in Pennsylvania will be increased to 50 percent for indoor events and gatherings and 75 percent for outdoor events and gatherings.
According to a press release, an event or gathering is defined as "a temporary grouping of individuals for defined purposes, that takes place over a limited timeframe, such as hours or days."
Events and gatherings include fairs, festivals, concerts or shows and groupings that occur within larger, more permanent businesses, such as shows or performances within amusements parks, individual showings of movies on a single screen/auditorium within a multiplex, business meetings or conferences, or each party or reception within a multiroom venue.
Face coverings are still to be worn indoors and outdoors if you are away from your home, the release from Wolf's administration said.
In accordance with the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, fully vaccinated Pennsylvanians are not required to wear a mask during certain activities.
The current order requiring Pennsylvanians to wear masks will be lifted when 70 percent of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

CDC: Fully vaccinated people can travel
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated travel advisories for people fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to a news release, the CDC says that fully vaccinated people, two weeks after the final dose of the vaccine, can travel at a low risk to themselves. These people are free to travel the United States without COVID-19 testing or post-travel self-quarantine so long as they continue to take COVID-19 precautions while traveling such as wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, socially distancing, and frequent hand washing.
When it comes to worldwide travel, the CDC recommendations for fully vaccinated people are:
- No COVID-19 tests prior to travel is necessary unless required at the destination.
- No need to self-quarantine after returning to the U.S. unless required by a state or local jurisdiction.
- Those coming to the U.S. must still have a negative COVID-19 test three to five days before returning and be tested again three to five days after returning.
- COVID-19 precautions should still be taken while traveling internationally.
Those who are still unvaccinated should still get tested one to three days before domestic travel and again three to five days after travel and should stay home and self-quarantine for seven days after travel or 10 days if they don't get tested after their trip.

Arbutus Star of the Month is Kathryn! Kathryn arrived at Arbutus Park Manor after a fall that left her unable to bear weight on her right leg. She required assistance to complete her everyday tasks like walking, transferring, getting in and out of bed, and getting dressed in the morning. Kathryn started out with just small steps towards recovery, but that slowly accelerated to her sprinting towards the finish line.
Kathryn’s recovery wasn’t without hardship, there were a few curve balls thrown her way, but she handled it all without becoming discouraged and kept her eyes on the prize. Kathryn has benefitted greatly from Occupational, Physical, and Speech therapies to guide her through the roadmap of recovery. She has learned to walk again with minimal assistance, she is able to get dressed in the morning without feeling like she’s scaled that side of a mountain, and speech has improved safety with self-feeding tasks. She also reports that she is grateful for all the wonderful CNAs and nurses here at Arbutus who have made her transition from home to long term living as smooth as is can be.
When asked what her biggest accomplishment has been so far, Kathryn is quick to state that raising her son has been the best thing she has ever done, and after that she would have to say being able to transfer and complete everyday tasks more for herself has been a great reward for all her hard work. Kathryn’s hard work and perseverance has made her the shining star she is today! #feeltheadvantage #advantage #healthcare

COVID-19 Update | 03/22/2020
With thousands of events being canceled, schools, restaurants, bars, all non-essential businesses and Borders have been closed, and that does not even begin to touch the state of the grocery stores nationwide… shelves are empty, lines longs and empty shelves. As shut downs become more widespread, and consumers continue to stock up on not only canned goods and dry foods, but disinfectants, gloves and masks, leaving healthcare providers limited in supplies. Hoarding has taken on a new meaning over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, in our line of work, we cannot escape the fatigue, and the stress, we do not have the luxury of self-isolating with our families like other non-healthcare friends and family.
We Are the Front- Line; We Are Carrying the Nations Burden of Care. We Are HealthCare Providers.
The CDC expects an increase of confirmed COVID19 cases in the upcoming weeks, and is relying on healthcare providers to take action and help prevent the spread of the virus.

- Pennsylvania Department of Health
- Saturday, Department of Health Secretary Rachel Levine confirmed 103 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. This brings the statewide total to 371 cases.
- Additionally, the Secretary announced that a second Pennsylvanian has died because of COVID-19.
- Yesterday, we learned a Sodexo employee working at the Allentown campus of Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation has tested positive for COVID-19. An investigation determined the employee had no direct contact with residents.
- Earlier Friday, Philadelphia Health Commissioner Thomas Farley announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a city nursing home.
While healthcare continues to work through the new challenges that society is facing, I have been more then impressed with our Advantage clinicians. Saturday, on a conference call with the therapy team of Renaissance, we had to announce the findings of a positive COVID19 patient. A patient who had been touched by our therapists and one therapist in particular who had been following and treating this patient during the period of time when it was still unknown that the patient had COVID. This team at Renaissance are the Advantage pioneers, they are our ground zero. This team is facing adversity at this very moment. The truth is we all face adversity in our lives, adversity is one of the most powerful forces in life, it can bring out the best or worst in you. Ultimately, it is up to us how will handle these obstacles. And if I could take a page from the playbook of the treating/exposed therapists at Renaissance, it would be the guide on how to focus on the positive, remain calm, while still having the compassion to do right by his/her patients.
WOW, yesterday was powerful talking with this team, hearing their heightened concerns for not themselves but rather the other patients who potentially have been exposed. This is a true definition of a health care provider. WE THANK THIS TEAM, for leading the way and setting the example for other teams!!
I can honestly say there is no greater privilege than leading the ADVANTAGE organization and all of our inspirational employees. Thank you
A couple additional side notes:
- We recognize PPE is limited, we are running a campaign starting today#ProtectOurStaff,MakeAMask. Our goal is to have 1000 face masks made to help protect our staff, our goal is to “Better Protect the Advantage Family, So we Can Protect Others Families”, follow our progress on our Facebook page @FeelTheAvdantage
- Daily Temperature Checks will commence Monday morning, March 23, 2020 at the corporate office; all results will be logged and tracked.
- Tracking logs will be sent to each rehab director to institute if your facility is not doing so.
- Weekly Health Risk Screenings will continue for both companies, via email link. We ask that all employees be mindful throughout the week of their overall health, especially a fever over 100.4, shortness of breath combined with a cough.
- Keep in mind we are in the midst of allergy season, and flu season, GI issues and non-fever illness should not alarm you.
- Due to the state of emergency, announced by the Governor, staffing is critical, some employees have already been trained, outside of their normal daily responsibilities, so we can utilize their skills if needed. Therefore, we will not be approved any PTO at this time, until further notice.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your flexibility and compassion for the patients as we navigate through uncharted waters. Together we will continue to live our mission of “Doing Right by Others” knowing that our patients “Deserve To Get Better, Better Service, Better Quality, Better Results”.
